Making More Mint

Mint has got to be one of the easiest plants to grow. Just plop it into some reasonably rich soil in a reasonably sunny spot and watch it take over. Evidence of its opportunistic habit probably lives in your garden right now. It certainly does in mine. The ‘Chocolate Mint’ I attempted to [...]

Hand Blown Glass Posy Pin

I picked up this teeny, tiny hand blown glass posy pin on my way back from lunch this afternoon. See how fast I am? Quick like lightening! I was apprehensive about pining a small water-filled vase to my chest but it really does hold the water. I tried all kinds of bending over actions that [...]

CBC News at Six

The CBC News at Six sent over videographer Michael Dick this morning to shoot a segment on the rising trend in growing food gardens on roof tops for what I believe is tonight’s news. I guess I should have asked. It was still cold and windy on the roof by noon but the sun has [...]

Chaos on the Roof: A Before

Click the image to see full-size. This is what the roof looked like last Friday shortly after we had commenced project The Best and Most Ass Kicking the Roof Garden Has Ever Been, EVER 2008. High winds on the roof have made me a little fearful of getting up on a ladder to take and [...]

Yoga for Gardeners

Spring is such a high-impact time in the garden that I figure this yoga series geared towards the aches and pains caused by repetitive physical activity in the garden just might be in order for a good many of us today. Too bad they don’t have a corresponding pose for this morning’s back injury, hauling [...]

All the heavy bags I carried up to the roof

Thankfully Davin showed just in time to carry 4 or 5 bags. I pixelated cause I don't want to be an advertisement for a container soil brand. It's an all-right brand... the best I can find in these parts but certainly not the best I have seen.

This cat lives near the community garden and comes to visit us when we are there. He is nuts, rolling around spastically... which is why we call him "Crazy."

Project The Best and Most Ass Kicking the Roof Garden Has Ever Been, EVER 2008

While the street garden and the community garden plot are both merrily on their way the roof is a disaster. I started an assortment of edibles a while back amidst the chaos with the intent of organizing it, and then didn’t. When the local television stations starting calling about coming to shoot the [...]
